Redux is an open table Original Dungeons and Dragons (OD&D) game based in West Seattle. Sessions are short and frequent, featuring expeditions into the dungeons beneath the ruins of Redux Tower and its environs. Emphasis is placed on elaborate dungeon maps, quick, deadly combat, surprising, delightful encounters, and player-driven exploration.
Every person is welcomed to play in Redux. The campaign is open table, which means any player can drop in or out session to session without breaking continuity. Character creation is very fast in OD&D, and there are pre-generated characters available. Feel free to drop in at one of the scheduled sessions!
To introduce yourself, and to see information about upcoming sessions, see the Discord Server.
When Dungeons and Dragons was first publish in 1974 it consisted of three booklets in a box: Men & Magic, Monsters & Treasure, and The Underworld & Wilderness Adventures. This is the version of D&D Redux uses. These rules are sometimes called "0e" (for 0th edition), OD&D (for Original), or 3LBB D&D (Three Little Brown Booklets).
The OD&D rules describe three main activities, which assume militaristic power-hungry greed on the part of the players' characters:
Underworld Adventures -- extracting gold and glory from mazey labyrinths
Wilderness Adventures -- exploring an overland hex map, seeking peoples and monsters to befriend and conquer
Stronghold Building and Domain Maintenance -- administering castles, keeps, or estates; waging war, doing politics, funding expeditions, and so on
Players are of course not restricted to these three activities alone; D&D is a game which unfolds outwards from its initial conditions like a blooming flower.
It isn't necessary to read OD&D before playing Redux, though of course you're welcome to obtain a copy on your own. There are also retroclones available for free which offer close-enough rules structures with an interprative lens. For 3LBB specifically, I recommend both Fantastic Medieval Campaigns and The Littlest Brown Book.
For Redux-specific rules and guidelines, see the Redux Campaign Guide.
